parachute dry flies Parachute fly
This fly is tied on hook size 18. The body is tied with a very thin Peacock herl.
The wing post is tied with Poly Yarn. The white Grizzly hackle goes around the wing post.

Tip
Ty this fly in dull black, light grey and make some with a very good visible wing post color to use in "rapid whitewater". (See the body color of the sedge picture on this page, which is also tied with Poly Yarn.)
An other tip for whitewater is, ad a tiny red tail to the fly like a redtag. When I am standing in the sun and have to cast in the shade below branches, I use a wing post color like on the picture. Bright yellow (sulphur). The dull black color is for dark weather and the light grey for fly fishing in the burning sun.

fly tying Sedge (5K) Deer hair sedge
This fly has the wrong hook! The eye of the hook has to point up and not down. You can fish the sedge by dragging it over the water. With the eye of the hook pointed down, the fly want to dive. Tie sedges on hooks with the hook eye up.

The body is tied with Poly Yarn. Take a piece of this material and rub this in the palm of your hands. Now you have Poly Yarn dubbing. Make a loop with your tying thread and place some of this material between the 2 threads. Twist the loop not to much. Wrap this around the hook shank but leave some space for the head and wing. Take a bunch of hairs from a deer hair winterskin and use your hairstacker to stack the hairs evenly. place the bunch of deer hair on top of the shank and wrap your tying thread twice around it but not to tight. Pull your tying thread and let the deer hair spin around the hook shank. The bunch of deer hair is now spread around the hook shank. Secure the hair with 2 extra wraps. Make place for an other bunch of deer hair by pushing the deer hair back. Now you have two bunches of deer hair tied on the hook. Two bunches of deer hair must be enough. It will be out of proportion if you need one more. Now it is time to trim the head and leave some for the wing. To be honest, i cut a little bit to much to shape the wing.
