More to come....
100_34471 (190 x 90) (3K) Start with your tying thread. Cover only the hook shank. If you want to make a Bead head Pheasant tail Nymph, first slide a Bead Head over the empty hook before you place the hook in your vice. Do not forget the measurements of the fly. The body is a little bit shorter then a normal sized Pheasant tail Nymph.

100_34501 (190 x 135) (6K) Take from your pheasant tail feather 4 to 6 fibers. Pull them from the stem. Make sure that the tips are even. Tail length is half the length of the hook shank. Do not cut the fibers !

100_34531 (190 x 124) (5K) Ty in behind the hook a piece of copper wire (ribbing). Make with your tying thread a base for the abdomen of the fly. Abdomen length = 0,6 of the hook shank. Wrap the Pheasant tail fibers clockwise around the hook shank. This forms the abdomen. Remember 0,6 hook shank length. Secure the fibers with your tying thread on top of the fly. Do not cut the fibers.

Make the ribbing. Wrap the copper wire in the opposit direction from the fibers. Not clock wise. Ty of the copper wire under the hook shank and cut the copper wire.

Thorax: Take 1 Peacock Herl and ty it in close to the Pheasant tail fibers.

Go with the Peacock Herl clockwise around the hook shank. Do not go to close to the eye of the hook, leave some space to secure the Pheasant tail fibers to form the Wing case and the head of the fly.

Pheasant tail nymph

Hovering Pheasant tail Nymph "Buzzer".
You can replace the wing case by using a piece of foam. This hovering nymph is very good in shallow water. Also in very slow moving parts of a river. Fish this nymph on a "dead drift". But, you can retrieve the nymph aswell by making short strips. Trout, Grayling, Rudd, Ide and Chub are the species i have caught many times using this method.
